This morning we walk 20mins to visit Cleopatra’s Needle in Central Park. The 21 metre high Obelisk, nicknamed Cleopatra’s Needle but actually attributed to Thuthmosis III c. 1475 BCE), is the oldest man-made object in Central Park, and the oldest outdoor monument in New York City.  We will continue a few more minutes to reach the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Metropolitan Museum of Art – make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes! We will be spending the first part of the day exploring this amazing museum. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world’s largest and finest art museums with a collection of more than two million works of art spanning five millenia. On arrival we will head to the Ancient Near Eastern Art gallery. Egyptologist Laura Ranieri-Roy will walk us through the extensive ancient Egypt exhibits, bringing stories of the pharaohs alive around some of the collection’s most fascinating treasures. We willalso  have time on our own to explore, we suggest you have lunch in one of the many dining options at the museum.

2pm: Our group will take a metro ride together to visit The Met Cloisters, a branch of the Met Museum located in picturesque Fort Tryon park, devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. The museum has been a must-see for locals and visitors since opening to the public in 1938, featuring thousands of artworks and architectural elements from textiles woven during the 15th century (the Unicorn Tapestries are particularly compelling) to the breathtaking Fuentidueña Chapel. You’ll also stumble upon the namesake cloisters—meditative gardens—located in various corners of the museum. Fort Tyron park on the Hudson river, site of a revolutionary war battle ground, is steeped in history and a beautiful area to explore after our tour. Our European historian Francois Roy will guide our Cloisters tour and bring the medieval history alive.

After our day at the museums, you may want to explore more of New York, find a deli, jazz club or restaurant for dinner or head back to the hotel and relax.
The Metropolitan Museum entrance is good for three consecutive days!

Today you have a choice of attractions. Enjoy one of three exciting and enriching activities included in your weekend tour. Make your way to The American Museum of Natural history,  one of the world’s largest natural history museums where you can explore the culture of man through the ages. Or,  select to visit the Museum of the City of New York located at the top of Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue, where you can explore the history of the city and celebrate its future. Need a change from museums? Why not enjoy a harbor cruise instead? Climb aboard and enjoy views of the breathtaking Manhattan skyline and Lady liberty as you cruise around the island.
